It's the little things that count

I'm thankful every day that I married John Keaton. There are lots of big reasons that I love him, but what I'm really thankful for is all the small little things he does every day to show me that he cares for me.

On the weekend I had a little freak out about something. I came to bed crying in the middle of the night as I was so sure there was something wrong with me. John immediately woke and asked me what was wrong and gave me comforting cuddles, and when I told him what was bothering he got up straight away to check it out for me. All it took was a second pair of eyes to show me that I had been seeing things the wrong way, and that there was nothing to be worried about. So thankful for a loving husband who got up so quickly to help me overcome my worries and didn't make me feel stupid when it turned out there was nothing wrong!

When I was single, I was hopeless at remembering to take out the trash (I always remembered to take it out the house and put it in the big green bin, but I would often wake up Friday morning, realising I had forgotten to take that bin out to the curb, and so had missed the garbage collection). Cue marriage and it doesn't matter that I forget about it, John always remembers, and always takes it out for us. Like always. I'm really thankful for this, as I think I used to forget because it was one of those jobs I really didn't enjoy doing - walking the length of our units driveway in the cold and rain is not my idea of fun. John never complains about it or expects me to do it. He's sweet like that.

John pretty much eats at least half an apple a day, and if I'm up and around when he is cutting it up, he will always ask me if I want some, and cut me up some too. If we have grapes, he'll prepare some of those for me as well. We generally sit down and eat them together, and as I eat faster than him (and am a little piglet when it comes to food), I have to really watch how I go so he at least gets half. But always (like yesterday) he will offer me the last piece of apple and last grape no matter what. The best thing is, I know he really doesn't mind if I have them. He's sweet like that.
